Purple of Sicily Cauliflower is an Italian heirloom variety known for its striking, deep purple heads and rich, sweet flavor. When cooked, the purple curd changes color, shifting into an attractive bright green. This non-hybrid variety is packed with antioxidants, is highly pest-resistant, and is easier to grow than most white cauliflowers. It makes a beautiful addition to gourmet vegetable gardens.

We recommended to grow this specific variety in containers for a few structural reasons:

• Compact Growth: The plant itself is naturally shorter and more compact than standard white cauliflowers, meaning its root system doesn't require a massive field footprint.[
• Stout and Forgiving: It features thick, sturdy stems that hold up well in restricted soil spaces like fabric pots, five-gallon buckets, or raised beds.

• No Blanching Required: Unlike white cauliflower, you do not have to tie the outer leaves over the center head to protect it from the sun. It self-protects via its natural purple pigment, making it much easier to manage in limited patio spaces. 

Container Specs:

To successfully grow it this way, you just need a container that is at least 12 inches deep and 12 to 20 inches wide (roughly a 5-gallon bucket or larger) to accommodate its heavy watering needs.
